Foundation, Strength, Power
These are the three pillars of personal training. All too often people get a “gym” membership with every intention to do the right thing. They made it in for the first couple of weeks and pushed so hard that they couldn’t move. Within six months they are sending in their cancellation letter because “It just isn’t working”. It is essential to follow the three pillars and build your FOUNDATION first. Then you can advance to increasing your STRENGTH. Finally, and this is the level that actually surprises those that achieve it, is POWER! You’ll gain the ability to do things that you’ve never been able to in your entire life.
Cardio and Weights
There is no “OR”. A balanced combination of cardio and weights is essential for healthy fitness. One without the other results in imbalanced fitness. You could can have a perfect physique – a show stopper, ready to compete in fitness shows, and still not be able to climb a couple of flights of stairs without being winded. This is fitness imbalance. The perfect physique has no core strength. Cardio vascular exercise is essential – period. Likewise, don’t make your entire workout about cardio. The benefits of using weights or body resistance are far reaching. You burn fat more efficiently. You strengthen joints, muscles and even increase bone density.
